Coding Tutorial Showcase

This week I'm celebrating two year five students who have been learning to code with me using the programming language Scratch. L started recently whilst E (Mr_Man2257) has been developing his skills for six months. All games are playable through the links provided below. I currently have sessions available for online primary tuition in English, Maths, Science and Coding both in the evening and daytime. Please contact me for further information. This 3D arcade game features sprite scaling, colour cycling and parallax scrolling to create an exciting feeling of movement and action! https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/351673356 Based on Pac-Man, in this maze game you have to collect the diamonds and avoid the green robot. The game uses the clone tool, "rubber stamping" the walls and diamonds in an invisible grid using algebra and coordinates. https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/282410151/ This driving simulator tests your reaction skills to avoid

Online Tuition on Skype and Zoom

In light of the government's recent update on travel to and from places of work and following many successful sessions this week, I am now offering primary tuition exclusively online through both Skype and Zoom. An hour's tuition is just £28 or £50 for two hours a week (which may be split into two separate sessions on different days should you wish.) Unlike mass online learning platforms, every one of my sessions is tailored to the individual needs of the student. The sessions can support learning that has been provided by your school or focus on particular areas of the curriculum you feel your child would benefit most from. Below are two examples of fantastic sessions that have taken place this week. Using Zoom, three home-educated students, who I normally tutor together at one parent's house, continued their English learning this week by exploring Chapter 14 of Charlotte's Web. They investigated contractions, different forms of punctuation and using th

Group Sessions for Home Learning

With the complete shutdown of schools parents have been asking me if I can offer small group lessons to support home learning over the coming months. The simple answer to this is yes and it can take a variety of forms. Though I don't organise groups myself, I can provide tuition for groups of two, three or four of similar age/attainment in a lesson-style format. This could take place in person at your home, my home or online (so long as you are able to supervise at your end.) Resources for the lesson will be provided in advance. Though less effective than one-to-one tuition, group sessions provide an economic alternative as the hourly rate can be shared. In summary, we are living through unusual times that require creative solutions and as an experienced educator I am looking to do what I can to accommodate the individual needs of parents and students. Should you have any questions please do email me. And now, a few more examples of recent learning worth celebrating! W

Latest learning

With the launch of the new website I thought it would be nice to share some recent learning by some of my students and celebrate their success. With the coronavirus situation as it is I'm now offering online tuition to anyone who would like it, or needs it due to self-isolation, at a special rate. For the meantime, however, students are still welcome to come to my home - which we're keeping exceptionally clean at all times and will be disinfecting surfaces and resources between every session. I am also able to travel to you if preferred. Well done to T (Year 2) and his success in exploring money and finding different ways to make totals in our special shopping challenge. Also, congratulations to J (Year 1) on adding and subtracting single digit numbers from other single digits using a number line to count forwards and backwards. Great work L (Year 3) on your work measuring and calculating the perimeter of 2D shapes. You worked in both cm and mm and soon learned how to
